Change is in the Wind

For a long time I wrote a pretty consistent blog on health and fitness. I really enjoyed it, but I felt something missing. Fitness is only part of who I am. I'm also a geek. So last year I decided to create a geek blog. This also went over fairly well. I enjoyed reviewing board games, talking about costumes I did, and all things geek. But updating two blogs while working full time and opening a bar was a bit much. So I decided to merge the two. Then it went dark.

I found myself writing up great blog posts in Evernote, only to have them sit until they really weren't relevant anymore. I kept telling myself I needed to re-brand first. I needed to change my web address, the color scheme, the banner graphic. I couldn't write about geeky things at a website devoted to fitness. So the months went by, and the posts stacked up. As I look back over what I'd written the past year I see it's a good mix of just fitness, just geek, and even a few that covered both.

So from here on out I'm going to do what a blogger should do, provide content. Some people may get confused if they come here looking for help with their fitness and find a review of the Firefly board game, while others may be turned off by coming here to read up on my Zelda: A Link Between Worlds playthrough only to find a video of me doing Body Beast. But, the content comes first. The window dressing will come.

If you're still here reading this, I thank you. I hope 2014 is a great year and I'll be here to help, whatever your quest may be.

Time to FOCUS

Some people say you can't get a good workout done in under 30 minutes. To those people I say “LIAR!”

Last week I started Focus: T25. It's a new workout created by Insanity trainer Shaun T. It's marketed as a workout you can do in 25 minutes, 5 days a week, and still get incredible results. I will admit I was fairly skeptical. I'm used to my workouts being at least 45 minutes. But this past week I was definitely proven wrong.

My wife and some friends did the 5-day Fast Track. I don't know how they did, but I dropped 5lbs and saw a huge boost in performance. I went from dying on the rug after Cardio, to only having to lie down and gasp for air. It's deceptively hard. Unlike Insanity, it doesn't have the big gym full of athletes and the pumping music. It really reminds me of something my mom would have done back in the early 90s. That's when you glance down at the clock and realize you've only been going for 5 minutes, and you're covered in sweat.

So far I really like the program. The meal plan is solid, and nothing beats being able to know just how long your workout is going to be. Hint, they are all 25 minutes. Anyone can get that done!

Are you doing T25? Do you want to? I've got a great group of people doing it together right now, and we'd love to have one more!

Focus T25 Pre-week

Today kicks off the Focus T25 5-day kick start. It's an 1100 calorie plan you do before starting the program. I've never done one of the pre-plan weeks that Beachbody has, but I see great results all the time.

Today was Alpha Cardio. Holy. Crap. Talk about tough! 25 minutes seemed to go on forever. And I hear this is one of the “easier” workouts! I am enjoying getting back into Insanity-style workouts, though. Stay tuned to check my results and progress!

Getting ready for a rebrand

When I first started down this road of health and fitness, my life was space. I was an Engineer on the Space Shuttle launch pads. I loved helping people in the same field get fit. But it’s been two years now since I’ve even seen a Shuttle, and my life is moving in a different direction.

You may recall the blog post from last April, about going to tumblr as GeekFitGuy. Well honestly, I hate tumblr. It’s just messy. I LOVE this site that I built. So I’ve decided to rebrand here, at That’s right. In the words of The Rock “Finally, the Geek has come BACK to WordPress! *eyebrow*”

What does this mean for you, my loyal fit fans? Just some different splashes of color here, some new images there, and a focus on my geek life. I just LOVE reading about how actors get fit for their super hero roles. And those legions of Spartans that costume as the 300 group. Though space has come and gone, my geekdom has been a constant.

So in the coming weeks I’ll start to transition the site over. Stay tuned, and I hope you all enjoy what’s to come!
