Over the weekend I did Beachbody’s 2-day Fast program. The program is essentially a cleanse where you don’t eat for two days, but instead your meals are made up of water and this shake. Here is what the website has to say:
Get out of the gate fast!
Two days is all it takes to cleanse and gain control of your body. If you’re ready to rid your body of excess fat, this is a perfect place to start. Use 2-Day Fast Formula for two days to experience:
A greater sense of being slim and in control of your body*
Total body cleansing*
A dramatic reduction of unhealthy cravings*
An invigorating, natural boost of energy*
An increase in weight loss from your fitness routine*
Start shedding pounds and feeling better By allowing your body to stop breaking down food so your natural calorie consumption machine can get “caught up” with the food in the pipeline, you’ll immediately start burning off stored fat.
So, without further ado, here is my experience.
Day 1 July 10, 2010
0945: Shake One
Not terribly filling. That could be due to the fact that I’ve been awake for almost two hours and woke up hungry. We’ll see how the day goes.
1310: Had my first glass of fruit juice. I’ve been going strictly on water since the first shake. 3.5 hours, not too shabby. I’m used to eating 300 calories every 2-3 hours. My metabolism is still off the charts from Insanity, so that’s making this tough. I’ve had a headache since about 1030.
As for my activity level so far, I’d say it’s been moderate. I’ve spent the morning packing up decorations in the garage and putting boxes in the attic. The program says to take it easy, maybe go on a light walk. Well, I think I went over that today. July, in FL, in the garage and attic. Could be contributing to the headache!!
1500: Time for my second shake of the day. Around 1430 I started to really get hungry and get another headache. But, I was able fend it off until now. I don’t know if it’s better to be hungrier or not. I must say one thing though, these shakes taste amazing! I’m drinking the vanilla, which is 8oz water and one scoop. It tastes so damn good! Even with water it’s thick and creamy like a milk shake.
1508: I’m about half way through my lunch shake and it’s completely satisfying. My headache is going away, my stomach is smooth, and my energy level has leveled out. The true test will be tonight. I should be drinking my dinner shake around 2000, so I’ll see how late I can actually stay up.
1654: Headache came back a few minutes ago. I don’t actually feel hungry, just the headache. And, of course I’m really starting to notice how many TV commercials are geared toward food. UGH! I just want some pancakes and a Guinness!
1710: Broke down and had some OJ. I’m also brewing some green tea. The dog’s squeak toy is killing my head. Man, I want Mexican so bad.
1832: All I want is a big ‘ole Moe’s burrito. mmmmmmmm.
2008: Third, and last, shake of the evening. Getting out of the house really helps.
It’s 2240 and some hunger pains just started popping up. Granted, I haven’t been drinking nearly as much water since the third shake. I don’t want to wake up every hour when I’m asleep!
2325: Time for bed and the end of day one of this fast. It’s a weird feeling. I want food so badly, but it isn’t hard to resist it. I think it more the fact that I haven’t chewed on anything all day. Liquid diets are tough, but at least now I know I can go a day without food!
Day 2 July 11, 2010
Weight: 200.8 (-1.5)
Waist: 39.5” (0)
First shake of the morning. I woke up and I’m not terribly hungry at all. In fact, I feel great!
1120: Taking the puppies on a walk. Still feeling pretty good, though just a little hungry.
1223: The dog walk went really well. I jogged for a minute or two, didn’t feel lightheaded the entire time, and just occasionally felt sluggish.
1256: Time for the lunch shake!!! I’m definitely consuming less water today. No headache, either! I thought I would wake up miserable, but I’m still feeling pretty good!
1430: Grape Juice!!
1738: Third shake of the day, final shake of the fast! I’m still feeling pretty good. I guess tomorrow we’ll really see. Back to work early in the AM!
1910: Just starting to get hungry again. I think it’s more that I’m bored than really hungry. Ended up watching a movie after the World Cup, so I wasn’t out and active like I was yesterday. This is also my dinner time, which is making it harder. I may have to break down and have an apple or something. I just have a feeling I need to chew on something. If I can just make it another hour or so I can go to bed.
Day 3: July 12, 2010
Well, it’s the “morning after” :p Here are my results:
Finish Weight: 199.8 (-2.5)
Finish Waist: 38.5” (-1)
I feel really like normal this morning. I don’t feel great, but I don’t feel bad, either. Normal for someone waking up at 0430, anyway. The best thing is, I’m not really hungry, don’t have a headache, and I didn’t wake up craving food. It’s pretty nice. The program recommends your first meal after being a well balanced healthy meal, so I’m starting off my morning with a chocolate Shakeology with a banana and reduced fat peanut butter!
My overall opinion of the program is that it does what it says it will do. I do feel lighter, I wasn’t terribly hungry, and on the tail end of it I wasn’t craving any sweets. I lost 2.5 lbs and an inch off my waist. It’s a far cry from 7lbs, but I am also in really decent shape and I eat well on a normal basis. I didn’t have to go to the bathroom at all over the weekend which tells me that my body is already efficiently processing the foods I eat. I think the biggest plus is the fact that, for the first time in about a month I don’t feel bloated!
I’m really hoping that Turbo Fire comes in the mail today or tomorrow. This cleanse is recommended before starting a workout routine so I’d like to put it to the test.
Would I recommend this to someone else? Absolutely. If you’re looking to just get a better feel of well-being, can’t get over that bloated feeling, or just want to slim up before a party or event this is a really easy and cost-effective way to do it.
